Black Friday 2025 in New Zealand: key info, dates and the deals to expect
Black Friday is weeks away – from past deals, predicted sales and more, we've got everything you need to know
The year has flown by and, somehow, November is here already. And, while that means I can almost hear the sleigh bells of Christmas jingling, there's one big event to get excited for first – Black Friday 2025.
We enjoyed the October Prime Day sale, but no single retailer, even Amazon, can compete with Black Friday sales in New Zealand. That's because almost every brand and retailer will be slashing prices come the end of November.
This year, Black Friday weekend starts on November 28 and runs for four days, wrapping up with Cyber Monday on December 1. That means you have mere weeks to sort out your Christmas wishlists before the big day – even less considering Amazon's Black Friday sale begins on November 18.
The best way to get ready to save is to keep an eye on the price history of any items you're looking to pickup, so that you know what prices it has dropped to before. There are also lessons to be learnt from earlier sales, such as shopping trends and average discounts.
The stats likely differ slightly in New Zealand. However, across the ditch, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that clothing was the most popular category during Black Friday last year. Meanwhile, our readers showed particular interest in best stick cordless vacuum cleaners and the best power banks, as well as the best laptops, the best dash cams and best Kindles.
Read on to find out more. We'll cover when you can expect deals to start trickling in and what kind of products you can pick up cheap.

Our current best overall phone is the Google Pixel 10 Pro, but it's actually quite difficult to get ahold of in New Zealand. For that reason, we'd recommend the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Not only is it a fantastic handset – currently the best camera phone on the market – we also expect it to see heavy discounts this Black Friday.

The best iPad for most people, with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE acting as the best Android tablet for most people, this updated baseline iPad is an easy recommendation. Its A16 chip is very capable and it now comes with a minimum of 128GB of storage. It's basically a more powerful 2022 iPad, but that's not a bad thing.

Only releasing in Australia and New Zealand a few weeks ago, the Luxe Cafe Premier is the first Ninja coffee machine in the region – and it's now the best all-in-one coffee maker. No matter what coffee you like, it offers easy, simple creation – offering truly excellent value. Plus, seeing as it's already been heavily discounted, we expect this machine to pop off come Black Friday.

The best headphones overall, though both the WH-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM4 are viable options, the Sony WH-1000XM6 are truly fantastic. There's no guarantee we'll see big savings this November, but their class-leading noise cancellation, excellent sound and comfortable build has us crossing our fingers.

It's not our current pick for the best stick vacuum, but we think this option is the best self-emptying cordless vacuum on the market – and it did hold the top spot for quite some time. Importantly, it's very often heavily discounted, so we expect even better prices for Black Friday.
Black Friday 2025 in New Zealand: key information
You can find all the key dates and information related to Black Friday 2025 below. We’ll be adding any important news or retailer announcements into this section as we inch towards Black Friday to get you in the best position to take advantage of sales this year.
Do they have Black Friday in New Zealand?
Yes! While Black Friday started as a shopping observance on the fourth Friday of November – the day after Thanksgiving – it is now a global shopping event, with many of New Zealand's biggest retailers taking part.
When is Black Friday 2025 in New Zealand?
Black Friday 2025 will officially start at 00:01am NZDT on Friday, November 28. While the date of Black Friday changes every year, it always falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving in the US.
However, most retailers will start their Black Friday sales about a week earlier than the official date, so keep your eye out for sales from mid-November onwards. And, the very best offers will land over the four-day weekend starting with Black Friday and finishing with Cyber Monday.
When will we see official Black Friday sales start in New Zealand?
We’ll likely see official Black Friday sales appearing online about a week before the actual start date, which would mean NZ retailers will start their Black Friday sales from about November 21. As you'd expect, these early Black Friday deals aren’t always as good as what you'll find available on the official dates, but we have seen plenty of instances where early Black Friday prices don’t fall any further once Black Friday hits.
The majority of discounts from Black Friday 2025 will officially wrap up at the end of Cyber Monday on December 1.
Where can you find the best Black Friday deals?
Most brick-and-mortar stores and online retailers will offer Black Friday sales, and our job is to help you hunt down the best of the bargains. You’ll typically find the best deals on tech from big-name retailers such as Amazon, PB Tech and Noel Leeming.
Amazon Australia has been shipping items to New Zealand since July 2021, but unfortunately Kiwis don’t get access to all of Amazon’s Black Friday deals. Even some key Amazon-owned products like Echo smart speakers and smart displays don't ship to New Zealand. Still, throughout end of financial year sales, the first Prime Day of the year and Amazon's mid-year sale, we saw plenty of good deals in New Zealand. So, even without official sale branding, Kiwis can expect plenty of discounts.
PB Tech and Noel Leeming are key retailers to watch out for, too. From Apple Watches, iPhones, iPads and Macbooks to Sony headphones and monitors, both retailers have been offering plenty of deals in 2025, so we don't expect that to change during Black Friday.
Other key sellers are HP and Lenovo. If you're on the lookout for a printer, laptop, monitor, desktop, PC, tablet or any kind of PC accessory, HP, Dell and Lenovo should be at the top of your checklist. HP and Dell are constantly offering incredible deals on top-tier tech, and Lenovo isn't far behind, so we expect them to be offering mouthwatering discounts come Black Friday.
Black Friday 2025: our deals predictions for New Zealand
Black Friday is a long way off, but we still feel comfortable predicting what we can expect over Black Friday Weekend and Cyber Monday. Throughout the several sales periods of the year so far, our experience with Black Friday last year, and our most recent coverage of Boxing Day and Christmas, we have plenty of experience that has prepared us for Black Friday 2025 in November.
Plus, this isn't our first rodeo. We've covered plenty of Black Friday sales, and use that to extrapolate the past onto 2025. So while it's hard to name specifics, we feel comfortable making the following predictions.
We think its safe to assume that Amazon Australia will be leading the pack come Black Friday. Even with Prime Day's in July and October, we expect Amazon to have some seriously good discounts – at least matching what we've already seen this year – across a range of tech, but particularly on its Echo smart devices and Kindle ereaders.
• Other retailers like eBay, The Good Guys and JB Hi-Fi will push hard on sales,
• Hold off buying a new computer as laptops always get a big discount.
• Great time to upgrade your home entertainment system with Black Friday deals on TVs and soundbars likely
• Whether you're looking for the best headphones or best earbuds, now's the time to save up. • The iPhone 16 will likely be down, as the iPhone 17 would have been announced.
• Games consoles are always on the menu, and we think its safe to expect the PS5 to be down considerably, as well as the Xbox Series consoles and Nintendo Switch, with the PS5 Pro, new Xbox models and Nintendo Switch 2.
