Having won their first domestic trophy for 70 years last season, Newcastle are now just two games away from another trip to Wembley and the chance to defend their crown. To do so, they will have to overcome Man City in what should be a tightly contested 2025/26 Carabao Cup semi-final.

Playing at home in the first leg, Newcastle will be seeking to gain the upper hand ahead of February’s trip to the Etihad and will be hoping to replicate the league victory they achieved earlier this season. Back in November, Harvey Barnes was the match-winner as his two second-half goals secured a 2-1 victory over City.

Following that victory, Eddie Howe’s side endured a difficult spell but there have been signs of improvement over the last month. They overcame Fulham to reach the semi-finals, have won three Premier League games in a row and most recently edged out Bournemouth to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.

City, meanwhile, have drawn their last three league games but have excelled in the cup competitions. They eased past Brentford in the quarters and demolished Exeter City 10-1 in the FA Cup. With new signing Antonione Semenyo hitting the ground running in that game, manager Pep Guardiola will hope the forward can inspire his side to victory at St. James’ Park.
