CinemaCon 2025 has drawn to a close, wrapping up another year of exciting announcements from the industry's biggest movie makers.

The four-day showcase of presentations and screenings brought together all the biggest movie theater owners, Hollywood studios, and industry execs – but if you missed it, don't worry because we've rounded up the most important entertainment announcements in one place for you.

Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil: Afterlife

Matt Bolton, Managing Editor for Entertainment, stepping in here to say that while we only got a very brief appearance from filmmaker Zach Cregger about his upcoming Resident Evil movie, I'm excited about this one – despite knowing very little about it.

I gotta say, I'm equally fine if he takes it off into its own direction – I unashamedly love (most) of the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movie series, and that really benefited from finding its own vibe within the (ahem) umbrella of the franchise.

  • George Harrison: Joseph Quinn (Fantastic Four, A Quiet Place: Day One)
  • John Lennon: Harris Dickinson (Babygirl, Triangle of Sadness)
  • Paul McCartney: Paul Mescal (Gladiator II, Aftersun)
  • Ringo Starr: Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin)

In case you're not aware, the plan is to make four movies, each centering on a different member of the group. And the really juicy part is that all four movies are slated to come out during April 2028.

I have to say, I'm struggling with this one. That's quite a cast, and Mendes has made some great stuff, but I feel like people are going to be pretty burnt out by the time they come to Ringo's movie (and you know it's going to be poor Ringo last).

We also got news that the Spider-Verse conclusion, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is coming on June 4th, 2027 – or, at least that's the plan. The movie has already had plenty of trouble hitting its dates, and was originally planned for a 2024 release.

If – like TechRadar's Senior Entertainment Reporter, Tom Power – you can't believe you have to wait so long to find out how Miles Morales' story ends, then the good news is that some first look images were posted on social media for fans to enjoy (see below).

Comic fans will instantly recognize the name 'Brand New Day', however, and probably won't have very good feelings about it – but we don't think the story will have anything major to do with the comic's story other than a name that evokes a fresh start.

Moving onto animation, the director of Sony's upcoming animated sports comedy GOAT, Tyree Dillihay, was on stage last night talking about the new film. There's not a lot out there about this at the moment but we do know that cinema goers will get to buy tickets for February 13, 2026 – the same time as NBA’s All-Star weekend in Los Angeles.

On the anime front, Sony has three new releases coming up. The first is the sequel to the Chainsaw Man anime series. Titled Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc, the movie will open in cinemas in the US on October 29, 2025.

A collage of Eve Macarro in Ballerina and John Wick in his third film

I use that that phrase advisedly, because Ballerina – which is officially called From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, somewhat desperately – is coming on June 7th, so we're sure to get a big new trailer and an appearance from its star, Ana de Armas.

But I'd put my money on a surprise last-minute Keanu appearance too, and the reveal of John Wick: Chapter 5 in a slightly more formal manner than an executive in an interview going "we’re working on a fifth John Wick film" more or less unprompted.

An image showing the main cast of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie

After the success of A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I have to assume that no time will be wasted getting Sunrise into motion – I doubt we'll hear much, but perhaps director Francis Lawrence will return to announce he's starting work.

A star announcement would be fun – the book follows young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Woody Harrelson in the original movie run, so who's a good young Woody? I would have said Paul Mescal, but it's set when Haymitch is just 16, and I'm not sure he can pull off quite that much of a youthful turn. It'll probably be one of the Stranger Things kids – maybe we'll find out later today.

Amelia just messaged me to say "And now my watch has ended", which is my cue – hi, hello, I'm Tom Power, TechRadar's senior entertainment reporter – to take over.

Anyway! As we mentioned earlier, Warner Bros. Pictures' presentation is coming later today – that's 4:30PM PT / 7:30PM ET, to be exact. With numerous DC Universe (DCU) in post-production and/or currently being filmed, we could get a substantial update on some of the most exciting DCU Chapter One movies and TV shows around.

Where the latter is concerned, it's been helmed by Mike Flanagan and Stephen King – yes, the horror auteurs themselves! – but it isn't a scary or gross film. In fact, based on the reactions I've already seen online, some attendees have likened it to It's a Wonderful Life (one of my favorite films, FYI) in terms of its timeless and tear-jerking story. If I wasn't already excited for its release this June, I certainly am now!

Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One

Tom Cruise is known as a champion not just of movies, but of the moviegoing experience. Cruise didn’t make an appearance at CinemaCon today, but a video message was played for attendees where he continued his push to save the theatrical experience for future generations:

“Seeing a movie on the big screens can change lives… the cultural impact of movie theaters can’t be matched… the story of cinema is an iconic one but it’s only just begun.”

Of course, we also want to hear more details about the forthcoming Mission Impossible –the Final Reckoning, which is scheduled for a May 2025 release. Let’s hope news on that release drops before CinemaCon wraps!

Eve Maracco walking through a neon-lit club in Ballerina: From the World of John Wick

First up is, predictably, Ballerina – the John Wick spinoff starring Ana de Armas. Director Len Wiseman went on stage with de Armas to show off a new trailer that showcases extra footage of an intense kitchen fight scene that is glimpsed in the previous trailers, and has the innovative use of weapons that you'd hope for from a film in this series.

That may not be the only John Wick universe movie we hear about today – Indiewire says than animated prequel movie showing John Wick's 'impossible task' mission that originally got him out of the murder business is coming – and it doesn't appear to be an April Fool, even though it hasn't been mentioned on stage.

Director Francis Lawrence and all-round legend Mark Hamill are on-stage to discuss The Long Walk, which might sound like '90s Oscar bait, but is a "brutal" (according to Hamill) Stephen King adaptation about people who must keep walking because if they stop, they're killed.

Ah, no need for Francis Lawrence to come back – he's moving straight onto the announcement that The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has been in pre-production for a while already, and is on something of a fast-track to movie reality – it's coming on September 20th, 2026.

It's an adaptation of the latest Hunger Games prequel book, which follows Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson in the originals) as a 16-year-old who – and I don't want to alarm you – has a very bad time in the Hunger Games.

People keep asking if he's back. And we didn't really have an answer. But yeah, I'm thinking he's back.

A couple of quick ones: Luca Guadagnino, maker of 2024's best movie (don't @ me) Challengers popped in to confirm what we already knew: he's making a new adaption of American Psycho.

Finally. FINALLY. The sequel to magician… heist… thriller(??) Now You See Me should always, very obviously, have been called 'Now You Don't'. But it was called Now You See Me 2.

Ah, we have the lightest of teasers for Sunrise on the Reaping. Enjoy some mood-setting molten liquid and snake skin.

Incidentally, the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael was mentioned as still coming, but with no real information – it seems like it's had a lot of problems in production, so we'll have to wait to hear more.

Paul Feig – director of A Simple Favor and one of my all-time favorite comedies, Spy – has a new movie starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney called The Housemaid.

The event is wrapping up, with the finale being a first look at Hurry Up Tomorrow, a stylish new thriller starring Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan and The Weeknd.

Warner Bros' event isn't until 4:30pm PT (7:30pm ET, 00:30am GMT), so there's a big pause until the next big flow of news – but we might get some tidbits in between.

Lionsgate's announcements was a solid set of stuff to look forward to, though I'd have loved a solid preview at the John Wick prequel.

I actually never got on with the Now You See Me movies, even though they couldn't not be more up my street – maybe I'll give them another go with the third coming, and I like Dominic Sessa, so here's hoping I'll come around.

Exterior shot of Dolby Cinema theater

AMC Theaters will build and open 40 new Dolby Cinema screens in its theaters in the United States by the end of 2027. That’s close to a 25% increase in these auditoriums, and once complete, they will mean there are over 200 to watch and visit in the US.

I, for one, love Dolby Cinema – you get oversized, plush recliners but it’s all about the screen and audio. Thanks to a special projector, you get Dolby Vision on a massive scale with Dolby Atmos sound all around – these work together to really immerse you in the action. I even love the pre-roll showing the difference in color and sound in Dolby Cinema.

We’ll all need to eagerly wait and see where the new Dolby Cinema theaters are going.

American Psycho

Some further thoughts on director Luca Guadagnino adapting American Psycho from the acclaimed Bret Easton Ellis novel.

This isn’t the first time American Psycho has made it to the big screen. Back in 2000, director Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol, The Notorious Bettie Page) delivered her own spin on Ellis’ novel, the highlight of which was a deliriously over-the-top performance by actor Christian Bale as deranged finance bro Patrick Bateman. According to Bloody Disgusting, Guadagnino stated at CinemaCon that no casting decisions have yet been made for the new American Psycho adaptation, but whoever gets to play Bateman will have some very big shoes to fill.

Hello! Matt Bolton, Managing Editor for Entertainment, tagging in here to take us through Warner Bros' announcements, which start in an hour.

The official logo for The Batman movie

Let's talk about The Batman's sequel. When the original came out, I was pretty middling on it – I loved Pattinson, the cinematography, the score, the overall vibe. I nearly fell out with a friend, however, when I called it "Baby's first Se7en", but I still think that's basically true.

Still, it sat well with me long term, and I've rewatched it when I want a movie I'm fond of to just wash over me – and it doesn't hurt that it's on regular rotation as one of the movies we use to test TVs.

He was a kind of mirror of Bruce Wayne, the son of a rich family who was forced to befriend the Waynes but hated them for being phoney. His family also died – but he killed them. He built a business empire, but it was a disaster in every sense, and Bruce Wayne saved it and forced him out. He eventually becomes a sadistic gang boss.

Kaneda in Akira, one of the best Netflix movies.

Do you think we'll hear anything about the long-mooted Akira movie, which WB has the rights for? Taiki Waititi was attached, then left it to make Thor: Love and Thunder, then supposedly was coming back to it after the Star Wars movie he was scheduled to make, which also seems to have vanished into the ether – but no word on him re-appearing on Akira after that.

I suspect it'll go unmentioned, but you never know – maybe a Jordan Peele or Ryan Coogler will have put their name forward, assuming Taika's no longer involved.

An image of Milly Alcock sitting on a chair with her back to camera on the set of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

I am assuming that we'll get some Supergirl information today – we've had our star, Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), for a few months, so it's probably time for a bit of footage – perhaps in in Superman, or perhaps some early clips from her own movie is ready enough.

Margot Robbie's Nelli lies exhausted on the floor, cigarette in mouth, in Paramount's Babylon film

It supposedly wrapped filming last month, so some kind of first-look reel seems likely, and will maybe give people a good glimpse into what kind of tone to expect. Fennell's movies are not exactly known for their bland approach to the topics they touch on…

Alright, five minutes to go, just enough time to hope that Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 and 3 get release dates and not just completely buried here, despite Chapter 1 bombing horribly. Because we really need to let these visionaries cook, and I've heard very good things about Chapter 2 from the few people who've seen it.

And Barry Keoghan is playing the normal best friend, seemingly? I feel like that bit will turn out not to be true…

We are still waiting for things to properly start, but it appears that the stars and director of Superman are hanging around. Hm, I wonder if the movie that apparently the whole future of DC Studios has been staked on will feature heavily…

The New Line Cinema logo has appeared, which is attached to The Lord of the Rings, Dune and (apparently the one I've really become hopeful for, for some reason) Horizon movies.

In case you weren't aware that another LotR movie is in the works, it's called The Hunt for Gollum, and is set to be directed by Andy Serkis, featuring Gandalf heavily. It's been slated for a 2027 release, so a brief tease today is probably all we can hope for… not that all LotR fans would use the word 'hope' there, I suspect.

Imminent releases Sinners (from director Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan) and A Minecraft Movie (directed by Jared Hess of Napoleon Dynamite fame, inexplicably, and starring Jack Black equally inexplicably) are getting some time in the sun before we move onto future events.

We're starting with Paul Thomas Anderson's next film, One Battle After Another – a black comedy based partially on the novel Vineland, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Jessie Buckley in The Bride!

Next up is The Bride! – that's their exclamation mark, not mine, though I'm looking forward to this one. It's Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial follow-up to The Lost Daughter, and is a fresh take on The Bride of Frankenstein.

It star Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale and Penélope Cruz , three actors who I can never get too much of. It's a musical, and is getting an IMAX release, and the early looks seems to be going for some serious sensory overload, and I can't wait.

It's New Line time – let's go, Horizon-heads and, uh, Gollum Groupies.

Footage of sequels Final Destination: Bloodlines, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and Mortal Kombat II is shown, and we've got some release windows later in the year for these movies. I have not seen the new Mortal Kombat, but I hear it's pretty good!

There was a pretty extended and hardcore Final Destination clip, but everything's okay now, because we're moving onto Weapons, the new movie from the director of [checks notes] Barbarian!? Oh boy.

Zach Cregger is on-stage, introducing a teaser that apparently won't be released afterwards – just one for those in the room, cruelly. Or maybe not, depending on what's on it.

Let me allow Wikipedia to give you a succinct summary of whatWeapons is about: "the disappearance of school kids in the middle of the night, police corruption, generational trauma, witchcraft, blood rituals, and religious abuse".

Brad Pitt wears a helmet in an F1 car

Anyway we're onto the F1 movie now, and the news that Brad Pitt actually drove at 180mph to capture the footage. Director Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy) is introducing the full first 10 minutes of the movie – though I suspect even the Las Vegas Colosseum arena at Caesar's won't really produce the full IMAX experience.

I'm concerned that moving onto this extended F1 break means we have fully passed the New Line portion of our event, especially since we haven't even touched DC Studios yet.

BTW, there are hints floating around the internet of some of the deaths from Final Destination: Bloodlines. Don't read 'em.

A bunch of footage from other upcoming animated movies was also shown, and they're talking about how The Cat in the Hat expands beyond the book, which always goes great…

A screenshot of the official poster for James Gunn's Superman movie, which shows the titular hero flying into the sky

(Image credit: DC Studios/Warner Bros. Pictures)

They have called it 'The summer of Superman'. Fair to say even the gentle chat that's happened so far is getting some people excited.

Apparently, James Gunn was offered a Superman movie back in 2018, but went for The Suicide Squad instead. A great movie!

And then we got the divisive (but in my opinion excellent) Guardians Vol. 3 – and Superman got to time to brew to perfection, we hope.

David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult are speaking very sweetly about their time making the movie. The whole vibe here seems to be that they want you to know how earnest and uplifting this will be in contrast to the self-serious and dramatic superhero movies we've become shackled to.

There's perhaps a little too much hyping of how Corenswet is definitely a vision of heroism in the cape. Don't worry, Rachel and Nicholas, the Henry Cavill stans only have so much influence, they can't bring you down.

Strong 'The other guy who was in Amelia Earhart's plane who no one ever remembers' sartorial look from Hoult at this event.

In more sneak peek footage, they're showing an extended version of the snowy Krypto scene from the trailer. Superman is helped by some friendly robots in the Fortress of Solitude, in a sort of 'The Return of Superman' style. Don't think he'll have the awesome long hair afterwards like in that series, though.

That's all, folks – as a certain WB icon says. No Dune: Messiah, no The Hunt for Gollum, no Supergirl, no The Batman sequel.

Since Amazon bought the movie business in 2022, it has been quietly building up its portfolio – most notably with the landmark deal to acquire creative control of the entire James Bond franchise – and it seems like it's now ready to make a splash.

That's according to an interview with Amazon MGM Studios' new head of film Courtenay Valenti with The New York Times that reveals plans to release 14 to 16 new films in theaters each year – with another 12 set to be made for Prime Video.

It seems, then, that we're in store for a busy announcement when Valenti takes the stage later today. Will we hear anything about which actor will play Bond in a new film? Most likely not. But there's plenty in the pipeline what with Michael B Jordan directing a reboot of The Thomas Crown Affair, a live-action Masters of the Universe film and an adaptation of Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary in the works, which I'm personally pumped for as I couldn't put this book down (definitely go read it!).

Christopher Nolan at film premiere

(Image credit: Denis Makarenko / Shutterstock)

Later this year in November, Yorgos Lanthimos will release his new sci-fi-comedy Bugonia to theaters in the US and Canada. It'll be the latest collaboration between the filmmaker and Emma Stone, following Poor Things, so I'm excited to see this one, especially with Jesse Plemons on board. It's meant to be about a CEO that's kidnapped under suspicions that she's an alien about to destroy Earth – what more could we ask for?

Let's start with The Odyssey. I doubt we'll see Nolan himself appear on stage for this one, since the movie is in the middle of filming around Europe – though the man does love to talk about the theatrical experience, and there's no better place to do that than CinemaCon.

Let's move on to Wicked: For Good for a bit. The second part is due out on November 21, 2025, but we haven't seen a trailer for it yet – that'll all change within the next couple of hours, for sure.

I loved M3GAN – I knew me and that movie were going to get on just great within the first few seconds of the Paul Verhoeven-esque commercial that opens it. And it actually had some truly interesting ideas about letting gadgets and algorithms 'raise' kids – and bear in mind that ChatGPT hadn't even launched yet at that time, so there's a vast fresh AI hell to mine now.

However, it's a bit concerning that we haven't seen anything of it yet, just a few months before it's out. That might mean it's a total banger, or that they lost confidence in it… or none of the above, and they just decided on a later media campaign.

Vin Diesel, of course, has been pushing for movement to happen. He recently posted a picture of himself wearing a Toretto-related shirt – a hint that things are happening, surely??

Mario prepares to pounce in his cat costume in The Super Mario Bros. Movie

It might just be as simple as a name. 'Super Mario Bros Odyssey' is probably not on the table for fear of Christopher Nolan beating someone to a pulp using a reel of IMAX film if they try it, but 'New Super Mario Bros Movie' is right there if they want it…

BTW, I should probably caveat my sweeping predictions by pointing out that my record for predictions in the Warner Bros event yesterday was atrocious. I mean truly abysmal. If I weren't the one deciding who gets to write this stuff, I'd probably have been pulled from duty. But here we are.

15 minutes until the event starts! Let's talk about humans interacting with large CGI lizard-y things.

The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie was shown in full to willing CinemaCon attendees earlier today, so I'm sure we'll hear more about it at the event too – it's out on June 13th.

And Jurassic World Rebirth will no doubt get some love, given its July 2nd release date. The trailer for the movie already covers a lot of dinosaur ground – it looks more like a regular action movie that had the Jurassic World name applied than something written for the franchise, but will I watch Mahershala Ali and Scarlett Johansson try to survive dinosaurs? Yes, I probably will.

Let's do a quick horror sequel catch up! Universal has The Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy's 2 on its roster for this year, plus a new Exorcist movie coming from thoughtful horror maestro Mike Flanagan.

Flanagan's Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining, is an absolutely astounding movie – the kind of thing that just pops in my mind all the time unbidden since I saw it. The potential for him to nail an Excorcist movie is huge.

These movies are all coming from Universal's partnership with Blumhouse, and the pair also have SOULM8TE coming, a supposed spin-off from M3GAN – perhaps we'll get a hint of what's coming there, too.

I am also seeing that Universal is working on an as-yet-unnamed movie with an upstart director called Steven Spielberg. It's scheduled for June 12th, 2026, and is written by frequent collaborator David Koepp.

Here we go! Universal is starting right on time, unlike Warner Bros yesterday. I presume you don't get to screw around with punctuality when you're Christopher Nolan's studio of choice. He's got a thing about time, y'know.

The crowd is being treated to some classic Universal movie scores and footage, but we're not here for the past, Universal. What have you done for me lately?

We are promised lots of trailers and footage of upcoming movies. That'll do for me, let's get into it.

Jurassic World Rebirth is up first, with Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and director Gareth Edwards appearing on-stage to show some new looks at the movie.

Gareth Edwards is a VFX master, and apparently was an intense Jurassic Park fan as a kid. He supposedly wanted to make this movie as realistic as possible – I'll be curious to know if they employed model work (ie, the reason the first one still looks so good) if he leaned fully into his CGI skills.

Johansson says they wanted to bring the scares back to the Jurassic movies in the new one. Which I'm largely on board with, but the magic of the first one was having that matched with the majesty and wonder of seeing things that seemed impossible. In a CGI world, everything seems so possible – I hope they can round out the movie in some other way (all the other sequels have struggled badly with this).

It's DreamWorks now, and they're talking about Gabby's Dollhouse. I have no idea what this is, and following a quick Google, I think that's probably okay. It appears to be wildly popular though, so I'm happy for the people involved.

The Bad Guys 2 is next. There's a clip of the movie presented by Awkwafina and the always-charming Craig Robinson. This time, The Bad Guys will face off against The Bad Girls. It's coming August 1st.

The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie is getting its time on-stage, following its showing earlier in the day. The first one isn't even out yet, but the buzz is good enough that the sequel is already pencilled in for 2027!

We've now segued over to horror movie HIM, which suggests we've left the DreamWorks portion of the evening – no Shrek 5 to be seen.

HIM is produced by Jordan Peele, and follows a young football player who gets the chance to train with a legendary quarterback – but like a few recent movies (Opus) meeting your idol turns out to be a lot weirder than you'd hope.

Bob Odenkirk's here with the the Nobody 2 trailer, which has a ton of action, plus Sharon Stone as his nemesis crime kingpin, which I could not be more on board with. It's out August 15th,

Time to get classy with Focus Features. The final Downton Abbey movie gets namechecked, as does Bugonia from Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) and The Phoenician Scheme from Wes Anderson (you know, all those movies) – in fact, more than namechecked, they're all getting sneak peeks.

Alright, the classy stuff is over; Jason Blum of Blumhouse is here in costume as Freddy from the Five Nights franchise.

He's talking about the imminent release of Drop – which is one of my most-anticipated movies of the year because it's from the director of Happy Death Day, which I loved – and then sequels to three of Blumhouse's biggest movies.

Expect M3GAN 2.0, The Black Phone 2, and obviously FNAF 2 – in fact, this just dropped on Twitter, promising a December release.

There's been a first look at FNAF 2, and now the reveal that The Black Phone 2 is coming in October, with a trailer.

If you're wondering how that film has a sequel, they very reasonably point out that death isn’t the end in the world of the movie. Ethan Hawke is back, and it's set at a winter camp as he hunts the kids who took him down in the first movie.

M3GAN will be used by the military to take down another killer android who makes her look positively chilled. Alas, she is not positively chilled, she still wants to kill poor Allison Williams. But I love a bit of villain-on-villain action, so let's gooooo…

Ah, and we're not out of the world of M3GAN yet. Jason Blum is back with James Wan to introduce SOULM8TE, the only movie with a dumber name than M3GAN.

We seem to be blasting through some light updates on major 2026 movies! The Mario sequel in April, Spielberg's still-mysterious movie in June, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Minions 3 in July (the latter is not from Nolan, to be clear – more's the pity), and Shrek 5 in December.

We're running low on time here, I have to assume Wicked: For Good is imminent and will finish the show off…

Ah, yes, here's Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, continuing the year's most persistent double-act. We're out of Oscar-campaigning mode, and into "Please don't ignore this sequel even though it doesn't have Defying Gravity in it" mode.

The first clips of Wicked: For Good are being shown to the crowd right now.

And that's it from Universal! No Nolan or Spielberg, but lots of Blumhouse, and some musical magic.

We'll be back for Amazon MGM's event later – we're expecting you, Mr Bond. (Though maybe not a lot of detail about you.)

For those keen on the next presentation, MGM's CinemaCon event will begin at 8:15PM PT / 11:15PM ET! We're expecting updates on its slate of upcoming films, including After the Hunt and Project Hail Mary, and maybe even some James Bond news if we're lucky.

Zac here from the TechRadar Australia team, and Amazon MGM's presentation is about to begin! Like everybody, I'm holding out for some Bond news, but I'm also keen on some Masters of the Universe announcements too.

Amazon MGM's presentation is underway, kicking off with footage from Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling. It's set to release on March 20, 2026.

A teaser of Michael Showalter's upcoming romance-thriller Verity was just shown, along with footage from Michael B. Jordan's upcoming remake of crime-thriller The Thomas Crown Affair.

The CinemaCon crowd was just treated to footage from Mercy, starring Chris Pratt. The film follows a detective in the future that must prove his innocence after he was accused of a violent crime. It's set to release on January 23, 2026.

Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie, a detective mystery following sheep trying to solve the murder of their shepherd, is up next. Video messages from cast members Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson are playing on the screen. It's expected to release on February 20, 2026.

Following the sheep flick, Crime 101 is now being talked about. The film, starring Halle Berry and Chris Hemsworth, is a crime thriller following a detective tracking a jewel thief – one that is following the 'Crime 101' rules for pulling off a heist. An exclusive sneak peek is being shown to the crowd, and a release is marked for 2025.

Next up is Is God Is, a genre-blending adaption of a stage play with the same name, directed and written by its original playwright Aleshea Harris (who makes her directorial debut). Footage was shown to the crowd, with the film being part afropunk, spaghetti western and greek tragedy. It stars Kara Young, Mallori Johnson and Vivica A. Fox.

Head of theatrical and streaming film at Prime Video and Amazon studios Courtenay Valenti has taken to the stage, along with marketing chief Sue Kroll. They're followed by a message from Mahershala Ali, who talks about Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. The film is being directed by Bassam Tariq, with the two previously linked by Marvel's upcoming Blade reboot.

Masters of the Universe! A sneak peek was just played for the audience, along with a quick video from the set in London, with concept art and crew shown. The Travis Knight-directed film is set to release on June 5, 2026.

The cast of The Accountant 2 have arrived! Ben Affleck, Lynette Howell, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda and director Gavin O'Connor are on the stage, with an extended trailer for the Affleck flick playing. This movie is only around the corner, releasing on April 25, 2025.

And that's a wrap for Amazon MGM's packed presentation! We didn't get to see anything new on the James Bond front, but plenty of awesome other projects are on the way over the next year. Things begin again tomorrow, with Paramount Pictures showcasing its upcoming slate at 10AM PT / 1PM ET, followed by Disney at 2:30PM PT / 5:30pm ET.

My favourite part of the evening was learning about the upcoming Masters of the Universe film – I can't wait to see it. Tune in tomorrow for more news out of CinemaCon!

Actually, just a little Bond news for you. Amazon MGM is planning the next installment of 007 to be fresh and exotic. It's being helmed by Amy Pascal and David Heyman, who have already started work in London.

One last bit of news! I Play Rocky is in production, following a young Sylvester Stallone during the development of Rocky. It's a drama directed by Peter Farrelly, and a release date is still to be announced.

We've already heard from Tom Cruise earlier this week and while there was no mention of his next Mission Impossible film then, I think that will change today. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23, 2025, so we'll hopefully get more of a sneak peek of what we can expect from the final chapter of this two-part film series.

This movie marks the eighth installment in a long running franchise and I don't expect it will be the last – even if they did change the movie's title from 'Dead Reckoning Part Two' to 'Final Reckoning'. Cruise has put Paramount on a mission – if it chooses to accept it – to make even more from these spy action hits and with many of the films being a hit at the box office, I don't see why they wouldn't keep Ethan Hunt on the payroll.

Anyone remember Arnie in The Running Man? I love a bit of silly 80s action and this classic is dripping in it. Whether a remake will retain that kitsch aesthetic is of course not necessary, but apparently Edgar Wright is going to make it more closer to Stephen King's book that the original was adapted from, so there's a lot of scope for a new original take here. I'm a big fan of Wright, so can't wait to see what he does with this – who else is stoked already for the soundtrack?

What does the full 2025 movie lineup look like for Paramount Pictures then?

Here's the full list of what's slated to arrive this year:

  • Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
  • Smurfs
  • The Naked Gun
  • Roofman
  • Regretting You
  • The Running Man
  • The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants

Guess who's back? It's ya boi, Tom Power, returning for another (and likely final) shift on the ol' CinemaCon live blog.

Anyway! As Amelia already mentioned, Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Studios are the final two companies who'll be bringing us movie-based gifts on the fourth and final day of the year's first big entertainment trade show. And, I don't know about you, but there are couple of – how can I put this – Marvel-ous things to keep an eye out for later today.

Almost three months later – but just two weeks after James Gunn's Superman movie takes flight – Marvel's First Family, aka The Fantastic Four, will make their long-awaited debut in the MCU. Their first big-screen adventure in a decade, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, arrives on July 25.

Hello, hello – it's Matt Bolton, Managing Editor of Entertainment here now to scale the mountain and see what Paramount has for us beyond the horizon.

Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails prepare to race in Sonic the Hedgehog 3

What are we expecting? Obviously a splashy Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning section with Tom C and lots of ridiculous stunt footage.

I'm not sure we're going to see the disappearance of ads in the current climate (and I don't want trailers to go – if anything I want more variety of them!), but catching more kids after school with extended matinee discounts and other options could be smart.

I mean, it's kind of pushing towards peak and off-peak pricing by another name, which does happen in some places, and isn't always popular…

Paramount confirms Sonic 4, Scream 7, and a new comedy from South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker plus Kendrick Lamar (can't wait to find out more about that combination) are all in production now – sounds like we won't hear more about them at this event.

The first footage of The Running Man was shown by Glen Powell, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin. It looks like classic Edgar Wright fast-paced energy, with suitably unhinged commentary on the satirical deadly reality show from Domingo.

I feel like this one will live and die on the script – it's got a smart director, charming actors, and timely premise (the book was set in the far future of 2025)…

It's animation time! There is a brief mention of the new Smurfs movie, and the reveal that both the TNMT: Mutant Mayhem sequel and the new animated Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel movie are coming in 2026.

Mark Hamill is back for his second CinemaCon appearance, to talk about the new SpongeBob movie. He's reprising his role as the Flying Dutchman, and would like be known as a horrifying villain to a whole new generation of children (having succeeded once with Joker).

You know, Disney's up later, Hamill could make a third appearance…

The Naked Gun is up now. We've already seen the teaser trailer, though! It's coming August 1st, and the crowd is getting a better first look at the movie.

Channing Tatum is here to talk Roofman, a crime drama based on the true story of a Army Reserve officer who took to stealing from McDonald's branches by breaking in via the roof.

Tom Cruise is here, as inevitably as Knight follows Day. (Little joke for the Cruise-heads there.)

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol

Interestingly, Cruise is off-teleprompter for his introduction of The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie – he's reading from notes. I wonder if McQ was a late addition, or if Cruise just refuses to do anything without an element of excitement.

Cruise is talking about his history with McQuarrie – they met on the movie Valkyrie, and really gelled. McQ came to help fix script problems on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, including making the Burj Khalifa scene work. They've basically been a movie hive mind since.

Cruise brings up how he's looking forward to see the F1 movie, from the same director as Top Gun: Maverick, partly because he's known Brad Pitt is a great driver ever since they used to race go-karts to blow off steam while filming Interview with the Vampire.

We have, at last, come to a new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. It keeps leaning into the hints from the earlier trailers that the history of the series is important, and confirms a two-month gap from the previous movie (which I might just go and watch now, actually).

Aaaand… that's it! A very light presentation as they go, considering Paramount's extensive history and slate of films. As Cruise would say, see you at the movies.

(And by 'the movies', I mean 'back here in a little while for Disney/Marvel/LucasFilm/20th Century Studios' mammoth presenation.)

No doubt Marvel will be a big focus for the Disney panel later. After the stumbles of Quantumania, The Marvels and Brave New World, the MCU really needs to get back on track.

Thunderbolts* is the next movie, so I'm expecting to see a collection of its stars here – but really, Fantastic Four is the big hope for most people to see some positivity, and I expect to see all four members on stage looking like a big happy family. Joseph Quinn has probably been hanging around Vegas since his reveal as cast member for The Beatles, playing George Harrison. I expect Johnny Storm can get into plenty of trouble in Sin City…

The Mandalorian Staffel 3

(Image credit: The Walt Disney Company)

There's half an hour to go until Disney's showcase. We've already talked Marvel, so let's talk Star Wars. Really, the franchise remains a mystery right now – there still seems to be no clear direction for the future. At least, so far.

I'll bet we hear about The Mandalorian & Grogu today – perhaps including some of the first footage, given that it's finished filming now. It's not due out until 2026, so I'm not expecting a lot, but given that we don't of any other projects that are definitely going forward right now, it could get a lot of focus.

Avatar

The James Cameron one that prints money at an alarming scale even though people keep trying to insist no one wants to see them. Well, I want to see them – James Cameron made two of the greatest sequels of all time, so if he says more Avatar is a good idea, then it's a good idea to me.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is due out at the end of this year, and yet we've barely seen anything of it. Now seems like a prime opportunity, doesn't it – especially since it might be too early to show anything new and juicy about Doomsday or Star Wars.

And hey, Zoe Saldaña just won an Oscar, doesn't she deserve a victory lap introducing the movie that's probably going to get her a fifth movie in the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time?

The Predator emerges from a smoke-filled area and walks to the left of the camera in 20th Century Studios' Prey film

Okay, we're just waiting for things to begin! It seems pretty clear that Avatar: Fire & Ash is on the schedule – I don't think anyone's going to the effort of 3D presentations for Ice Age 6 (though imagine that will be available in 3D).

There's some of the movie theater business stuff happening, which apparently, like, the point of this whole event? The head of Dolby just announced that Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos will be the official premium formats for AMC Theaters.

No one tell Christopher Nolan, who absolutely refuses Atmos, and whose movies don't have Dolby Vision on disc (but often does on VOD, go figure). I'm sure AMC will continue to accommodate Nolan's love of IMAX (which is operated by Xperi, Dolby's big competitor, which also owns DTS), though…

We've had a sizzle reel that featured a few interesting tidbits, including Tron: Ares. And there was a little introduction from new photorealistic Stitch, which is a thing I had mercifully forgotten would be a part of today, briefly, but here we are.

👀 Predator: Badlands you say?

I am very much looking forward to The Amateur, as well, in part because of its killer cast, and in part because I really don't know to expect from a high-tech action revenge thriller from a director whose only other movie credit is the heartwarming humanitarian story One Life.

Lilo & Stitch Official Trailer

We are starting with Lilo & Stitch. The animated one is one of my favorite Disneys, in no small part because Stitch just constantly in motion, constantly chaotic. But being able to do that is tied to tightly to the art style – it offers the cleanliness to do that without being overwhelming. I don't think that charm is going to translate, and seeing the other aliens reduced to straight up just looking like humans is… disappointing. And the cinematography also looks just too flat. But we'll see.

We're moving at a good clip compared to the other events, because now we're on to Tron: Ares, introduced with quite the Grid-like laser show. Jeff Bridges is here, delightfully, along with… sigh, Jared Leto.

It also has Greta Lee and Gillian Anderson in it, with music from Nine Inch Nails, and has David Fincher's cinematographer shooting it, so… I'm on board.

There's a teaser, and it shows a light cycle splitting apart a police car in our world…

We had a very brief mention of Zootopia 2 and the fact that Ke Huy Quan is in it, and also lip service to The Amateur.

Tone shift! We're talking The Boss. Jeremy Allen White is here to discuss Deliver Me From Nowhere, the Bruce Springsteen biopic. There are several major Bruce fans on team TechRadar, and lots of us saw him perform last year, in fact.

Ella McCay, the new movie from the legendary James L Brooks, is up next. Star Emma Mackey and returning presenter/co-star Jamie Lee Curtis are on-stage… and then are joined by Brooks himself. He's straight in with some juicy quotes, and there's a peek at the movie for the first time. It's coming in September.

Here's who's coming up for Thunderbolts* at some point. This stunt seems like it'd have been a lot more fun in front of more than 11 people, though.

There's a trailer for The Roses next. It's a black comedy starring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Samberg, Allison Janney and Ncuti Gatwa. It's directed by Jay Roach, who did Austin Powers – which I rewatched recently and is still an absolutely amazing movie.

Oh, that was it for Searchlight's 'cool indie' portion of the evening. It's time for the cast Thunderbolts*, although if you saw the ads where they tout all the A24 talent who worked on this movie, maybe you could be tricked into thinking it's from Searchlight. Maybe.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour and Hannah John-Kamen are presenting a new exclusive look at the movie, which comes out next month.

Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige makes an appearance from the Doomsday set to say that the long-ass Avengers cast reveal the other day didn't reveal all the cast. We kind of got that, Kevin, in no small part because it was light on heavy hitters from the main MCU.

Now we're moving onto Elio, the next Pixar movie. Zoe Saldaña is on-stage – I suspect not for the last time tonight. She's introducing some 3D footage of the movie… also, I suspect, not for the last time tonight.

Zootopia 2 is back, having already cameo'd before. It's being introduced by Ke Huy Quan, who was named as appearing in it earlier, so I guess they just wanted to give me time to adjust to this new reality in which I find myself.

Quinta plays a Quokka. Just gotta get that off my chest.

Anyway, Zoe's back, because of course she is – I told you, she deserves the Oscar victory tour. She's lining up the first footage of the movie, available in glorious 3D, naturally.

Well, that's it then. CinemaCon is over when it comes to announcements. James Cameron gets the final say, as he so often does.
